    Additionally Dale, I am designer that uses Solidworks and I was thinking about making my own setup blocks for 1/2, 3/4, and 1" material. Can you advise on where to get the profile that you used in your video and if you know whether the profile would need to be adjusted in each case? Many thanks in advance!

    Can u put Saran Wrap on top of led lights

    • @dalemaley
      @dalemaley 3 місяці тому

      The little rectangles on the LED strip, that convert electricity to light, do not put out hardly any heat, compared to a very hot incandescent bulb. These LED chips would probably not melt the Saran Wrap. I build my stuff to hopefully last for generations to come, and since Saran wrap is so thin and flimsy, I would never use it on one of my projects. Hope that answers your questions. Thanks for watching the video :)

    I've completed the same whirligig per the designers plan from his book. However, I'm not too happy with the connecting rod performance. I remembered your video and went and looked again. I see what appears to be a metal strap with two holes, one for eye bolt and another hole for the crankshaft. I'm assuming these holes are slightly larger than 1/8" to allow movement? The eye bolt locates the top of the metal strap to the figure and the hole being slightly oversize allows some rotation and the bottom hole attaches to the crankshaft via the threaded nut? Is that a good summary, or am I missing something? Length, width and thickness and MOC would be appreciated. This is my first attempt building a whirligig with a crankshaft and I want something that works well! Thank you very much!

      The guy that did the book way underdesigned the beefiness of his whirligigs!! I had to "beef up" all of the designs to get them to hold up to any kind of wind at all. Let me dust off my whirligig, and I will get back to you.

    Great memories. We loved that pool and pretty much spent our summers there. Biked up 1st St from Elm and met our friends in the afternoons. We'd often go back after supper with Dad and our siblings. Swim lessons or swim team practice in the mornings. I can smell that chlorine whenever I hear those old 60s songs that would play on the loudspeaker. Mom used to say that summer pool pass was the best 25 bucks she ever spent. 😅

    Very interesting and well done. I wonder, if and when one did need a diffuser, whether white plexiglass would work. It comes in bright white and off white. Also, if warm LED lights would be more suitable for stained glass since they feel less "industrial" and more "natural" (like the sunlight associated with stained glass).

    • @dalemaley
      @dalemaley 5 місяців тому

      People claim they have found material types that work as diffusers for these LED strip lights, but I don't know what they are. Boy, I have never dug in and understand the different wavelengths of LED lights. When I bought the LED strips, I don't remember any options for type of light emitted.........but LED technology changes so rapidly they may be available now. Thanks !
